A Sociological Study on Leprosy

Abstract
Unless the general public realizes what leprosy is, it is hard for leprosy patients to the normal community life. We have therefore made an attempt to carry out a sociological research on the resettlement of leprosy patients in our society by analyzing the actual conditions of negative leprosy patients in our country today.
The patients who responded the research are those residing at Huimang-chon (Village of Hope) in yongiu and !redo-won in Young-il County. The findings of the study during November and December of 1968 are as follows:
(1) A majority of the patients are 30 to 40 years old, while in other farming areas more are in the younger or older age brackets.
(2) 97. 5 percent o¢¥ the respondents are husband and wife units, the average family numbering two. Only one family consists of seven members. This indicates a small family system among the patients.
(3) 90 percent of the respondents have a religious faith; a sharp contrast with.
two-thirds of general farmers having no religion. Of all the religious denominations, Protestants are the overwhelming majority, and Catholics account for
